Welcome to Medieval Monday and the second week of our Celebration theme. Today for your reading pleasure I have the lovely Ruth A. Casie with her next snippet and isn’t this cover just divine? Happy reading, my lovelies!

Excerpt:

In the grip of a silent panic, her heart raced. Surely, she should say something more…

“I understand ye’re leaving us tomorrow. I was afraid I wouldna see ye. Wi’ so much ta do in th’ village, there is barely time ta…” A knot in her throat made it difficult for her to swallow. She didn’t want him to leave. “As clan chieftain, I want ta give my thanks for all yer help. It hasn’t gone unnoticed by th’ people, or by me.” The man who stood before her was so strong, had a commanding presence, and was handsome. That hadn’t gone unnoticed either. “I spoke out of place before and regret if I offended ye.”

She let out a frustrated breath and licked her lips. Why didn’t she plan this with more care?

“Please, don’t do that again,” he said.

She gazed at him, not sure what he meant.

“Lick your lips,” he clarified. “They’ll get dry and cracked.”

Her fingers went to her lips. In a heartbeat, his face changed from cool indifference to tender concern. Then a playful smirk lightened his features. Her body reacted to the change that suddenly came over him. The tingling in the pit of her stomach took her by surprise.

The Pirate’s Redemption
by Ruth A. Casie

Blurb:

After her beloved father dies, Moira MacDougall becomes chieftain of their small clan. She is tested on every level, not only by her councilors who question her every move, but also by an exiled Englishman who raids her village under the guise of a notorious pirate, Gareth Talbot.

He wants the secret weapon Moira possesses, and will do anything to get his hands on it—including committing murder so he can give it to King Henry to prove his worthiness and be welcomed home.

Moira will follow her destiny and do whatever is necessary to protect her clan.

The real Gareth Talbot is through with love. His last romance did not end well. He suffered a broken heart and doesn’t trust women.

Humiliated, Gareth goes to sea and becomes a captain for MacAlpin, the pirate king. When raids along the Scottish coast are blamed on him, he seeks revenge. Nothing less than death will do.

Moira and Gareth are on different missions but seek the same goal. Can they work together and eliminate their greatest enemy, and in the process, find the one thing they didn’t know they were searching for, true love?

Welcome to Medieval Monday and our next theme which is celebrations. For the next eleven weeks, I’ll be keeping you entertained with excerpts from authors you’ve come to love! To start us out, I’m sharing an excerpt from my novella To Love A Scottish Laird: De Wolfe Pack Connected World. In this beginning scene, Laird Douglas MacLaren of Berwyck Castle and Lady Catherine de Wolfe have both journeyed to Caen France to celebrate the marriage of the Duke of Normandy. Little did they know that the Duke has his own plans for the pair. Happy reading and enjoy, my lovelies!

Excerpt:

Douglas left the duke’s solar and took the stairs two at a time ’til he reached the lower floor. He was uncertain if he should rejoice or curse heaven that his life had taken an unexpected turn? Was he not already contemplating marrying some unknown Englishwoman? He should not be complaining, the lady chosen for him by the duke was the one he liked. Mayhap that was the issue

’Twas as though he had no say in the matter. And to stay in the future king’s good graces, he would have to do as asked. Douglas may be stubborn to a fault at times but he was not a fool.

Sometimes you really can fall in love at first sight…

Lady Catherine de Wolfe knows she must find a husband before her brother chooses one for her, but none of the knights and lords she knows have caught her eye. A tournament to celebrate the wedding of the Duke of Normandy might be her answer. She does not expect to fall for a man after just one touch.

Laird Douglas MacLaren of Berwyck is invited to the tournament by the Duke of Normandy. He goes to ensure Berwyck’s safety once Henry takes the throne. He does not expect to become entranced by a woman who bumps into him.

Before they can express their feelings, the Duke orders them wed to strengthen ties between his English supporters and the borderland, and then separates them by commanding Douglas’s escort to his home.

Yet, nothing is ever quite that simple. Not everyone is happy with the union of this English lady and a Scottish laird. From the shores of France, to Berwyck Castle on the border between their countries, Douglas and Catherine must find their way to protect their newfound love.

Welcome to the last week of our First Meet theme on Medieval Monday. I’m ending things with the last long snippet from If My Heart Could See You. I hope you’ve been following along for the past twelve weeks and have enjoyed reading excerpts from some of my favorite medieval romance authors. Be sure to leave a comment below to be in the running for my giveaway. A random comment will be generated and announced on next week’s Medieval Monday. Happy reading, my lovelies!

Excerpt:

“I would be lying if I said I do not desire to have a taste of your sweet lips beneath mine and all else you would offer,” he told her truthfully but watched in dismay as the spell that had been woven between them was broken with his words. She stepped away from him, covering her face once more. “Surely you would not deny your lord a simple kiss.”

The woman pondered his words and took a hesitant step back as if she knew she had stayed too long. “A kiss is not so simple to a woman’s heart, my lord, hence I would not give them lightly and without thought.”

“Surely you are not wed?”

“Nay, my lord, I am not.”

“Then I do not see the problem if we but share a moment or two of pleasure this morn.”  Dristan reached for her again, but to his irritation found only empty arms as she dodged his outstretched hands. Still he persisted in his efforts to know the maiden further. “Come now, do not be shy. I but wish to know you,” he said, trying again, and got no further than he did but moments afore.

“To what end, Lord Dristan?” she queried tartly, as he watched her become annoyed with him. “I will be no whore for you or any other man nor shall you make me your lady wife. I am but one woman among many to have crossed your path and surely there will be more to follow as you travel about on the king’s business. I will not be used and tossed aside with mayhap a babe in my belly for allowing you to, as you said, share a moment or two of pleasure,” she answered angrily. “Somehow, I think I am worth more than that, although you may not think so.”

Caught off guard by the bitterness in her words, Dristan was about to reply when the sound of racing hoof beats came to his ears and he turned to see the cause. He was put at ease as several of his guardsmen came into view and dismounted with swords drawn as if protecting him from some unseen enemy. He turned back to have further speech with the woman only to find her gone from his sight with only a brief glimpse of her tartan as she disappeared into the forest.

If My Heart Could See You
The MacLaren’s
A Medieval Romance

When you’re enemies, does love have a fighting chance?

For Amiria of Berwyck, defeat does not come easily as she watches her home and clan being ripped asunder. When the very enemy who has laid siege to her home demands her fealty, she will do whatever it takes to protect her people including a hastily concocted ruse that quickly begins to unravel. All too soon, she starts to question whether she can forgive herself for betraying those she has sworn to protect.

Dristan of Blackmore, champion knight of King Henry II, has a reputation to uphold as the Devil’s Dragon. After his invading army conquers Berwyck castle, he sets out to manage the newly claimed estate by training its knights in the art of proper defense. At first, everything appears as it should be, or is it? Betrayed by those he believed he could trust, he must first set aside his anger before he can make room in his heart for love.

Together they are tied by an unspoken bond. As they begin to rebuild the land and unite their people, forces beyond their control attempt to tear apart their fragile truce and only time will tell if love will forever bring them together.

Today on Medieval Monday it’s my pleasure to welcome fellow Bluestocking Belle Rue Allyn. Rue has a snippet from her novel The Herald’s Heart. Happy reading, my lovelies!

Snippet:

Talon growled. He could either stay with the horse and lose the maid, or follow the maid and … And what? Stumble blind over a cliff into the sea and lose not only his horse but his life? Nay, only a madman would go wandering around unknown ground in a fog this thick, which made the dunces back in the alehouse look very wise indeed.

Blurb:

Royal herald, Sir Talon Quereste could never love an overly adventurous, impulsive, argumentative woman of dubious background who threatens everything he values. Lady Larkin Roshan can only despise a man who would deny her identity and steal her heritage. So why has fate thrown them together to solve the mysteries of the heart?

Welcome to another Medieval Monday, my lovelies. It’s week ten and today’s guest is the fabulous Elisabeth Hobbes who has a excerpt from Beguiled by the Forbidden Knight. Be sure to read all the way to the end to learn about Elisabeth’s giveaway. Happy reading and enjoy!

Excerpt:

The girl settled for covering her breasts with one arm and the dark triangle between her legs with the splayed fingers of her other hand. Gui did his best not to stare at what she was trying to hide, but she drew more attention to her attributes than she concealed.

Now she was seemingly satisfied with their attempts at modesty, the girl’s screams became words.

‘Leave me alone, dweorgar!’ she cried.

‘Stop screaming,’ Gui ordered. His brain caught up with his ears. ‘What did you call me?’

‘You can speak!’ the girl gasped. Her eyes grew wide with surprise.

Gui frowned, his earlier suspicion that she was mentally deficient creeping back into his mind.

‘Of course I can.’ Her accent had been broad, with the flat vowels of York. He’d understood her words, but it had not come naturally. ‘If you mean in your tongue, then why not?’

He’s her enemy…

…and she must not fall for him!

When her mistress is claimed as an enemy knight’s betrothed, handmaiden Aelfhild knows it would be too dangerous for her lady; she must go in her place. But there’s more to the scarred knight than she first thought—she isn’t expecting to fall for him! As the line between friend and enemy blurs, Aelfhild realizes she might be protecting her mistress, but not her heart…

It’s week nine of our first encounter theme for Medieval Monday and this week’s guest is Jenna Jaxon with an excerpt from Time Enough To Love. Isn’t this cover just gorgeous? So swoon worthy! Happy reading and enjoy, my lovelies!

Excerpt:

His self-satisfied tone and the thought of his outrageous teasing touched a contrary nerve in Alyse. She pulled her wits together and beamed brilliantly at her newly-betrothed lord. “Take care, my lord, for the wise women say, ‘Marry in haste, repent at leisure.’”

Sir Geoffrey raised a dark eyebrow while those around the banquet hall laughed. Heart pounding at her audacity, Alyse watched helplessly as he reached over and lifted her hand. “Such repentance could never be suffered too slowly, my lady, if ’twere your gentle hand that held mine through it.”

Laughter and applause washed over Alyse, who was struck absolutely dumb at the touch of his lips to her skin. Her heart pounded, and a strange roaring sounded in her ears; she wondered vaguely if she were about to faint.

Time Enough To Love

When Lady Alyse de Courcy is betrothed to Sir Geoffrey Longford, she has no choice but to make the best of a bad bargain. The hulking knight is far from her ideal man, and although he does possess some wit and charm, he is no match for the sinfully sensual man she secretly admires, Thomas, Earl of Braeton, her betrothed’s best friend.

From the first, Sir Geoffrey finds himself smitten by Lady Alyse, and, despite her infatuation with his friend, vows to win her love. When Geoffrey puts his mind to wooing Alyse, he is delighted to find her succumbing to his seduction. But when cruel circumstances separate them, Geoffrey must watch helplessly as Thomas steps in to protect Alyse—and falls in love with her himself.

As the three courtiers accompany Princess Joanna to her wedding in Spain, they run headlong into the Black Plague. With her world plunged into chaos, Alyse struggles with her feelings for both the men she loves. But which love will survive?

Excerpt:

“Praise Mother Danu.” The lass moved away from Desmond, and knelt on one knee in front of Alastair. “Please forgive me. We did not ken whom we could trust. My name is Ailsa MacDuff. We require your assistance.”

Alastair released his hold on the druid. “Please dinnae pay homage to me.” He reached down and helped her to stand.

“Ye are honored on our island,” stated Ailsa. She waved her hand toward the druid. “This is Tam.”

The druid nodded. “How blessed we are to have a Dragon Knight and his guard come to our aid.” He looked at Ailsa. “This Dragon Knight has the power of the land.”

Desmond snorted in disgust. “I am not his guard.”

Alastair’s mouth twitched in humor. “I am married to his sister.”

A Highland Moon Enchantment

Blurb:

You first met this warrior in Dragon Knight’s Axe, Order of the Dragon Knights, Book 3

Irish warrior, Desmond O’Quinlan has never surrendered his heart to any woman. He has no wish to have his soul tortured by love. Ailsa MacDuff, a warrior among her clan, has no desire to have a man chain her to a life of obedience. However, that is before she meets Desmond. The temptation to allow this warrior inside her heart is a risk she dares to take, but one that could lead to a future of emptiness and sorrow.

When betrayal looms from within, the battleground of love is no match for these two warriors. Can the power of a Highland full moon be strong enough to unite or destroy them?

Welcome to another Medieval Monday, my lovelies. This week it’s my pleasure to welcome back Ashley York who has her next snippet from Curse of the Healer. Enjoy and happy reading!

Excerpt:

She looked about her, trying to remember. “I’m… gathering herbs.”

The scents around her were overwhelming and she closed her eyes again, breathing it all in. The dampness of the soil. The honeysuckles behind her. The leather of the belt wrapped around the man’s middle.

When she opened her eyes, he was watching her. Intently. She swallowed more of the refreshing liquid.

“Gathering herbs so late at night?” He glanced around them before turning back to meet her gaze. “That cannot be a simple job. ’Tis quite dark out here.”

“Mmm. Dark.” Heat pooled in her belly.

The slightest flick of his brow and the trace of a smile as he dragged his thumb along his lower lip. A speculative gesture. His gaze traveled lower.

Curse of the Healer

After the death of Brian Boru in 1014, a legend arose of a healer so great she could raise a man from the dead, with a power so strong it could make any warrior the next high king of Éire…and to steal it away from her, he need only possess her.

Fated to be a healer…

Aednat has spent her entire life training to be the great healer, knowing she must remain alone. When she meets Diarmuid, the intense attraction she feels toward him shakes her resolve to believe in such a legend. If she gives in to the passion he ignites in her, can she settle for being less?

Destined to be his…

Diarmuid of Clonascra is renowned for his bravery in battle. Only one thing daunts him: the prospect of taking a wife. The safest course would be to keep his distance from Aednat, the bold, headstrong healer who’s far too tempting for his peace of mind. But his overking orders him to protect her from a group of craven warriors intent on kidnapping her to steal her power.

What starts as duty for Diarmuid quickly transforms into something more. Aednat’s power might be at risk, but so is his closed-off heart.
