Can you believe this is our last week for our nature theme for Medieval Monday? Where did the past ten weeks go? I’m ending this theme with the final excerpt from Love Will Find You: The Knights of Berwyck, A Quest Through Time (Book Four). As you recall, Killian and Ella have fled Berwyck and are traveling south. Happy reading and enjoy, my lovelies!

Excerpt:

“Killian! Put me down this instant,” she ordered.

“And have ye fall when yer legs give out again? I think not.”

“This is highly inappropriate,” she barely choked out her reply before he adjusted her within his arms in order to pull a blanket from the gear on her horse.

“Ach! We are grown adults, Ella. Do ye honestly think I will let a woman in my care come tae harm?” he grumbled, making his way a short distance to a nearby log. “Dristan would have my head and I currently like its placement.” He tossed the blanket upon the ground before kneeling down to gently set her upon it.

They stared one to the other, neither putting any distance between them. Her fingers automatically curled into the length of his hair, the softness pulling to her senses.

“Yer safe, my lady. Ye can let go now.”

His words were lost to her just as surely as she had lost all sense of reality. “What?” she murmured.

He chuckled and gave her a truly wicked grin as though he knew where her thoughts had led. “I canna tend tae a fire if ye continue tae hold onto me, Ella.”

He might as well have thrown a bucket of frigid water upon her. Good heavens! What is coming over me, she mused. She quickly tore her arms from around his neck and folded her shaking fingers in her lap. “Sorry,” she muttered in embarrassment.

Killian wrapped the blanket around her. “No need tae be apologizing, Ella. Rest yerself and I shall tend tae camp.”

“I can help,” she said, starting to rise.

He gave her a gentle nudge on her shoulder. “Nay. There is no need. Ye are in my care so for once let someone take care of ye for a change.”

“I am used to fending for myself.”

He stood but watched her intently. “And I admire ye for it, but for now let me see tae keeping ye safe. Ye have fended for yerself far longer than ye should have.”

He walked away leaving her there in the dark with her thoughts running amuck inside her head. Soon, a small fire was lit at her feet to take the chill of the night air away, but ’twas the sound of Killian’s low singing of some Scottish song that lulled her into a peaceful sleep. She would have been startled to know that he observed her far into the night before he found his own slumber.

Love Will Find You:
The Knights of Berwyck, A Quest Through Time (Book Four)
By Sherry Ewing

Sometimes a moment is all we have…

Ella Fitzpatrick is a woman with a secret. As she comes and goes from Berwyck Castle, seeking refuge within its gates, she yearns to be reunited with the one for whom she crossed time from the twenty-first century. She has lived another lifetime in the twelfth century waiting for the date of their reunion and it is almost upon her. But how could she have known the man she believes she loves is not the person she needs?

Killian of Clan MacLaren has been infatuated with Ella for many a year but has guarded his heart, knowing her affection lies with another. When Ella must flee Berwyck, Killian vows to escort her to her encounter with destiny. But passion flares between them and there is no doubt the bond they have is far greater than either of them expected.

Their time together is running out. Killian has a decision to make that might give him and Ella a future together. If you could change someone’s past, would you seize the moment?

Welcome to Medieval Monday and the last of my guests before we return back here for my final snippet. It’s week nine and I’m happy to welcome returning guest author Bambi Lynn who has a snippet from Mask of the Highlander. You’ll have to tune in next week on her blog to find out what happens! Enjoy!

Excerpt:

“He is too proud to hide. And locking him away somewhere on the earth is not enough. Ankou would find him. He must be hidden away somewhere Ankou will not think to look. You have the power of time-travel. You could hide him anywhere, during any era. He would be safe then. He would have your protection.”

“It is a lot to ask. Why should I do this for you?” She could guess the answer, but again, that would make it too easy for Borvo’s cheating wife.

“Do not do it for me, but for him.” Demona nodded at the god lying prone at their feet. “You are the goddess of justice. There is no justice in Borvo’s curse. It is not Ioeannan’s fault he is irresistible.”

Arduinna’s eyes were pulled again to Ioeannan as she considered Demona’s plea. One thing was certain. It was not fair for anyone to be so decadently gorgeous. “Very well,” she finally said. “I will do as you ask, but not for you. It was your inability to control yourself that put him in danger to begin with. I will secret him away, but only I will know his whereabouts.”

“But –”

Mask of the Highlander
By Bambi Lynn

Once she was afraid to touch him. Now she’s afraid to let go.

Leaving her for dead, he rode off to battle the English. In the five years of his absence, she bore him a daughter, increased his holdings, and gained the love and respect of his people. Now he’s home. Must she and the clan learn to endure his cruelty once more?

Can an ancient Celtic god find peace in the mortal world

The Laird of Domhnul has returned from war a changed man—moreso than his wife can possibly know. Now the warrior faces a new battle, one for his wife’s heart, and his peoples’ trust. He must walk the knife’s edge of deception and danger, all while learning to manage the supernatural power flaring inside him and discovering a heritage he never imagined.

But when his father embroils both them in a deadly plot, can the couple find a way to prevent war between their clans?

Another week has rolled on by so that must mean it’s time for Medieval Monday. Please help me welcome our newest member to our blog hop, Kelley Heckart. She’s a new author to me so I’m always happy when I can share the love of a good book from a new author. Please enjoy her snippet from White Rose of Avalon. Happy reading, my lovelies!

Excerpt:

Morgaine sat on the soft grass. She stared at the silver spring, listening to songbirds singing happy melodies from the shelter of the apple trees. Thunder rumbled from beyond the mists that shrouded the Isle of Avalon. Thoughts of what lay ahead troubled her. The monk Roderick spoke true when he had said that she needed their help as well. It was true that her powers were weak on the earthly realm, which was why she counted on the druid Merlin to help her. She needed the monks to stay out of her way and not influence the High King with their Christian God.

White Rose of Avalon
By Kelley Heckart

Do you like captivating, passionate historical fantasy featuring King Arthur, Gwenhwyfar, Merlin, Nimue, Morgaine, and Lancelot? Inspired by The Mists of Avalon, this sensual retelling of the Arthurian romances brings these legendary characters to life.

Destiny cannot be altered.

With Britannia falling to the Saxon hordes, Morgaine, Queen of the Faeries, has no choice but to make a pact with the Christian monks. She promises to give them a High King who will unite the Britons against the Saxons if he takes a queen from the faery realm. Morgaine hopes this will restore the Goddess faith and return Avalon to its rightful place. She sends Lancelot to guard the future High King, but when a love potion falls into the wrong hands, all seems lost.

Gwenhwyfar is the only hope for the future, but betrayal, revenge, and forbidden love surround her, all of which could send both Britannia and Avalon into ruins.

You’ve seen this author here before. Please welcome Jenna Jaxon to my Medieval Monday blog. It’s week eight on our Nature theme and we hope you’ll enjoy her next snippet from her novel Time Enough To Love. I just love everything about this cover, don’t you? Happy reading, my lovelies, and enjoy!

Excerpt:

Alyse, her eyes squeezed closed, shook her head.

His body suddenly went rigid as he asked, “Has the pestilence returned, Alyse?”

“No,” she whispered.

Geoffrey slumped, but he prodded again. “Do you know what is wrong, Alyse?”

A slow nod–oh, but she dreaded what she was about to say.

“Then you can tell me, sweetheart, for I beg pardon for what I said about Thomas, if that has distressed you. You are more important to me than anything else in the world, so you must let me know what is wrong.”

She struggled to sit up, despite the cold. Geoffrey helped her and immediately put his arms around her, trying to keep her warm, but she shrugged away and turned to face him, raised her hand to caress his cheek and said simply, “I believe I am with child, my lord.”

Time Enough To Love
By Jenna Jaxon

When Lady Alyse de Courcy is betrothed to Sir Geoffrey Longford, she has no choice but to make the best of a bad bargain. The hulking knight is far from her ideal man, and although he does possess some wit and charm, he is no match for the sinfully sensual man she secretly admires, Thomas, Earl of Braeton, her betrothed’s best friend.

From the first, Sir Geoffrey finds himself smitten by Lady Alyse, and, despite her infatuation with his friend, vows to win her love. When Geoffrey puts his mind to wooing Alyse, he is delighted to find her succumbing to his seduction. But when cruel circumstances separate them, Geoffrey must watch helplessly as Thomas steps in to protect Alyse—and falls in love with her himself.

As the three courtiers accompany Princess Joanna to her wedding in Spain, they run headlong into the Black Plague. With her world plunged into chaos, Alyse struggles with her feelings for both the men she loves. But which love will survive?

It’s hard to believe it’s already week seven in our Nature theme for Medieval Monday! It’s always such a pleasure to welcome back my friend Mary Morgan to my blog. She has an excerpt for you today from To Weave A Highland Tapestry. Enjoy and happy reading!

Excerpt:

As she gazed into his eyes, Gwen noted the man definitely exhibited the signs of a fever. They were glassy and unfocused. She drew near and reached outward with her hand. When she touched his cheek, he flinched. “I’m merely checking your temperature.”

The man radiated fiery heat, confirming her suspicions. “You smell like honey.”

His smile broadened. “Ye have a cool touch, lass, and ’tis the mead. Alastair was kind enough to give me one cup.”

The burr of his voice skimmed over her skin, and Gwen snatched her hand away. She took a hold of his arm. “You need to get back into bed.”

Patrick chuckled softly. “Are ye going to tuck me beneath the furs?”

Heat blossomed in her cheeks, but she refused to look or answer the man.

“Will ye stay and bring me comfort?”

To Weave A Highland Tapestry
By Mary Morgan

Do they dare unravel the past for a future of love?

Excerpt:

“Ye can go back in, Astrid. I can see to my own needs.”

He knew her very well. Better than she knew herself.

Welcome to week five in our Nature theme for Medieval Monday. Today’s snippet comes from the fabulous Barbara Bettis and her novel A Winter Knight. Sit back and enjoy my lovelies and happy reading!

Excerpt:

Nicholas swore under his breath. What feather-brained female would venture out in a storm with such few belongings? Any lady he’d ever known traveled with trunks of adornments.

No ignoring the evidence. Some lady or her attendant was likely trudging through the frigid December night after being tossed from this mount.

“Merde!” He sighed and ducked his head, then muttered another curse when kernels of icy snow melted down the back of his neck.

He had no choice. Couldn’t leave anyone to wander around in this weather. And a lady, at that. If God had any mercy, He’d see the lady’s party found her first. What would Nicholas do with her at the ramshackle manor he’d been tasked with putting to rights? You could do only two things with ladies—marry’em or mount’em. He’d sworn off the first and was too damned cold for the second.

A Winter Knight
Knights of Destiny Series
By Barbara Bettis

He’s running from his past; she’s running from her future. But on a snowy winter night, they find each other and the surprising gift of love.

Sir Nicholas has given up on marriage. These days he’s content to captain his friend’s troops and avoid entanglements—until one winter night when he rescues a half-frozen woman from a snowstorm. Her irrepressible spirit and kindness to others reminds him that all ladies aren’t like his former intended, who wed his brother while Nick was on crusade. But he can’t open his heart to Lady Clare. She’s bound to another, and Nick won’t forfeit his honor. Even if she were free, he has nothing to offer but love, and this lady deserves everything.

Lady Clare’s dying grandfather has arranged her betrothal, but the arrival of the man she’s to wed sends her fleeing into a snowstorm. Injured when her horse stumbles, she’s rescued by a mysterious knight. She recovers at his run-down manor, safe at last—until her betrothed tracks her down two days before Christmas. Trapped at home with the wedding imminent, she longs for the winter knight she’s come to love.

Only a miracle can bring Clare and Nick together. But at Christmas, anything is possible.

Nature can provide beauty and inspiration. It can also bring danger. Maggie’s island is a place of solace and great beauty, but it is also completely without defenses, something Phillipe must correct before he completes his task of protecting the woman he has come to love—and says good-bye to her forever.

Excerpt:

“I am not the countess.” Maggie hissed, fresh pain sliding through her. “That title is nae longer mine.”

He frowned. “I wish I could spare ye, but ’tis certes unscrupulous men, men who choose to see ye as a challenge, will come.”

“My past will follow me here?” Her skin blanched cold with shock, then blazed with anger. “I am nae a challenge! They willnae cross the sea on some manly whim.”

Phillipe peered at her, his gaze roaming her face. “Aye, ma belle, they will.”

The Prince’s Highland Bride
By Cathy & DD MacRae

Free of court intrigue, Phillipe seeks a new start in life. Falling in love was not in his plans. Until he met Maggie MacLaren.

Phillipe de Poitiers, a prince of Antioch, finds himself a breath away from wrongful execution. Risking everything, he leaves behind his crown, his family, his country—and a body sworn to be his by the Bishop, himself.

Free of court intrigue and drawn to Scotland by memories of a woman who once possessed his heart, Phillipe sells his sword to pay for his travels and accepts the task of guarding the daughter of Laird MacLaren.

When Maggie MacLaren’s abusive marriage fails, she wants nothing more than to retire to her childhood home on the banks of Loch Lomond. Trouble follows her, putting her clan in danger, and she travels to the Isle of Hola, placing her safety in the hands of a mysterious mercenary with a haunted smile and a kind heart.

As Maggie and Phillipe struggle with their pasts, love blooms. But when a pirate’s treasure offers a seductive lure, will it free them—or prove the downfall of all they hold dear?

We’re now on week three for Medieval Monday and our Nature theme and today’s guest is Judith Sterling. She has her next snippet for you from Night of the Owl. I do so love a good time travel, don’t you? Happy reading and enjoy, my lovelies!

Excerpt:

She lifted a hand to her belly. “I’m starved! What did you bring?”

“In honor of the first time we ate in private, I had Aubert make something like your sand-wich.”

“You remembered the word!”

“I did, but how do you refer to more than one of them?”

“Sandwiches.”

“Sand-wich-es. He made two. Duck and cheese this time, with the uncooked lettuce again.”

“So you did like the lettuce! It adds a nice crunch.”

“That it does. Shall we sit?” He motioned to a soft patch of grass near the river’s edge, and they sat down.

“What did you bring to drink?”

“Spiced wine.” He handed her a sandwich, then took a bite of his own.

Excerpt:

As he got closer, she tried to make out his facial features. They were strong, but in the darkening shadows, she couldn’t make out who approached. His dark hair was ruffled by the wind. He moved with an air of authority and the appearance of one who demanded instant obedience.

She closed her eyes. A vision emerged from a swirl of mist. A face. His face. Wesley Mills’ face. She snapped her eyes open.

With all the activity and noise around her she still heard his footsteps thunder as he came across the deck heading toward her. If he unveiled her now, all would be lost. He bent over the barrels, stretched his arm between the casks brushing her shoulder, but not claiming it.
