I can’t believe it’s been 12 years since I self-published my first historical romance novel. I’m going down memory lane (and taking you with me) and showing you the original cover for If My Heart Could See You that hit Amazon’s bestseller list at #3 two days after the paperback released. I can still remember sitting on the floor of my mom’s living room staring at the numbers rise in disbelief on my dashboard. It may have gone higher but I was such a newbie I had no idea of where to look on all the lists found on Amazon.
And a newbie I was. It’s embarrassing to think about exactly how long it took me to edit the original painting of Lamia by John Waterhouse. Months, actually, if I’m going to be honest. If you’ve seen the original painting, then you’ll know it has a snake running around her legs and at the bottom corner of the image. And the image looked fine for the ebook but pretty grainy when it came out in print. Again… just another mistake of a newbie who thought she could do it all. lol! But this would probably explain the many cover changes it went through over the years. Sometimes, I think maybe I should update all of them in the series… and then again… I honestly believe that this incredible painting is what drew readers to my book in the first place. This was the image I always had in my head for my cover. I am still humbly grateful to every reader who found me all those years ago.
And you’ve stuck with me through the days when my muse up and left me for parts unknown or when life threw me curve balls that took a while to recover. Lately I’ve had a hard time writing at the pace I did back when I first started this whole journey, but I’m still finding the time to get these stories out of my head. My current number of published novels and novellas is 35 with two more being released this year! I have four more I have to write that I have commitments to for next year and then… well… my daughter and I are brainstorming something I think will be pretty incredible! I think I proved that English teacher in high school wrong when she told me my writing would never amount to anything.
So journey with me back to 12th century England and a time with knights and their ladies… where times were hard and love could be found in unexpected places and/or situations. Amiria and Dristan will always hold a special place in my heart. They are the characters who started my whole writing career and somehow, they are almost always connected to my other work.
