Welcome to my First Kiss Friday Blog! Today’s guest is my dear friend Mary Morgan who will be ringing us into the upcoming holiday season. Mary has an excerpt from Wishes Under a Highland Star. Isn’t the cover just beautiful? We hope you enjoy this peek into her world. Take it away, Mary!

Hello, Sherry! I’m delighted to be on your lovely blog today! I’m sharing the “first kiss” from my upcoming Scottish medieval romance, Wishes Under a Highland Star. Enjoy, and Happy Holidays!

Excerpt:

Alex grumbled a curse and walked away. Striding with intent, he gave a curt nod in passing when Aine stepped from her safe haven.

She hurried after him. “Ye are bleeding.”

“Aye,” he returned, making long strides through the bailey and ignoring her concern.

“The cut requires tending to. Glenna is a healer. I can take ye there,” she suggested, doing her best to keep up with him.

“Nae need.”

“What do ye mean?” she pressed.

Alex clenched his jaw. Rory’s talk about marriage settled like a nettle’s sting. Without a clear path in front of him, he had no intention of luring any woman into his life with false hope. Especially the one who smelled like wildflowers on a spring day with enchanting eyes that beguiled him.

“The wound will heal in time,” he gritted out, sweeping past a yew tree and heading toward the sounds of a nearby stream.

Aine grasped his arm with a force that surprised him. “Can ye stop for a moment!”

Halting his stride, he glared down at her. The look he gave her would singe the hair from any warrior or animal. “Do ye have more to say?”

“Why do ye refuse aid?” she demanded, fisting her hands on her round hips.

Her stubborn refusal to leave intrigued Alex. Would she flee if he challenged her? He lowered his head near hers. “Why do ye care?”

Her eyes widened, and her luscious lips parted. “Because I do,” she whispered.

Alex’s breathing became shallow and the air around them thick. Her pink lips begged to be kissed. Would they be as sweet as berries? Or as heady as the wine he drank last evening? An ache to take her in his arms filled him.

He wrestled with the conflict—duty, honor, possession. She was pure as new-fallen snow on a crisp morn, and he no better than a rutting stag. Though his hands shook to hold her in his arms, Alex steeled his emotions and moved away from her.

Ye deserve a better man, Aine. Ye are a beauty, and I am but a beast.

Aine’s smile came slowly as she took a step toward him and did the unthinkable. Standing on her tiptoes, she brushed a kiss along his bearded cheek. “Is it wrong to care for ye?”

Indecision plagued him as he regarded her—disbelieving, curious as to what his real fear might be. Shoving aside the conflict within, Alex grasped her around the waist. He nuzzled the spot below her ear. “Ye tempt your fate with a kiss, Aine? With a man ye do not ken?”

She lifted her gaze to his—her cheeks flushed with a rosy hue. “Did I tempt ye?”

And there Alex witnessed the invitation in the smoldering depths of her lavender eyes. By the hounds! What was the lass doing? She had transformed to a siren, tempting him beyond reason, luring him with her heady scent and enticing song.

With his restraint failing, Alex deemed a lesson proved in order—one that would hopefully frighten her away from him. His eyes raked boldly over her lush curves. Crushing Aine to his chest, he devoured what she had to offer. The kiss became demanding, urgent, forcing her to open fully to the seduction and pleasure. His tongue quested with a burning need to conquer—slipping inside her sweetness. He drew forth her moan and answered with one of his own, kissing her more deeply. Gripping her waist firmly, Alex slowly walked her backward until her back hit the rough bark of a tree.

The kiss sang through his veins, igniting a hunger beyond anything he had known. Alex angled his head to take more of her sweet lips and hungrily feasted on something he dared not take.

#FirstKiss Friday, Be My Guest, Historical Romance, Scottish Romance

Thanks for joining me for another First Kiss Friday! Today’s guest is Eliza Knight who is sharing an excerpt from her novel The Scot is Hers. Isn’t the cover gorgeous? We hope you enjoy this first kiss scene. Happy reading, my lovelies!

Excerpt:

“And if I’m to be blamed for your ruination,” his gaze shifted to her mouth, “then perhaps ye’d gift me with a kiss?”

Giselle was stunned by the differences between Alec and Sir Joshua. One had taken a kiss without asking, without caring. And this one, the earl she’d agreed to marry, asked for it.

“And if I said nay?”

He held up his hands and backed away. “Then I shall wait until ye’ve given me permission.”

The other difference between Alec and Sir Joshua was she wanted to kiss this man, and he was giving her the opportunity to do that.

Oh, she was hot and tingly at the prospect. Giselle nodded, licking her lower lip. “Aye. A kiss.”

This would be her second kiss of the day, and Giselle wanted this experience to erase the first.

“Are ye certain? After everything ye told me about Keith, I feel like a cad for asking.” His gaze flicked from her mouth back to her eyes. “I got carried away in the moment.”

For the briefest instant, the hard mask he wore for everyone else disappeared, revealing the softer, more vulnerable man inside. Then it was gone, replaced by the wicked earl, the beast she wanted to tame.

“There are many differences between ye and Sir Joshua Keith, no’ least of which is that ye, as prone to growling as I’ve found ye, are no’ a true beast at heart.” And she meant that, even when she’d found him in the garden a few years ago, she hadn’t been scared, hadn’t thought him cruel. He was more like a wounded animal. Even now. In search of a balm to the heart.

“I am flattered ye would say so.”

“I am serious.” And she needed to remember that he’d called their marriage a business deal. A transaction. She couldn’t let herself forget that or allow any emotions to play a part.

“Thank ye,” he said softly, swallowing hard enough she could see his throat bob.

Giselle smiled, shimmied her shoulders gently, and said, “Now ye may kiss me and be on your way before Jaime barges in here to witness. Or your mother, for that matter.”

“My mother might bring a small army. Though ’tis likely Jaime would bring Lorne.”

“She is a dear friend.”

“And a good one from the sounds of it.”

Giselle nodded, butterflies dancing in her belly. “I’m ready.”

“I’m no’,” Alec murmured, but his actions said otherwise as he leaned toward her.

She watched his face descend and then closed her eyes when his breath fanned over her mouth the second before his lips touched hers. They were soft, tender, and not in the least intrusive. This kiss was the complete opposite of what she’d had with Sir Joshua, and as she’d wished, it erased the horror of before, replacing the memory with the scent of Alec, the melding of their mouths in such a delicious fashion. He tasted the way he smelled, of spice. A hint of cinnamon.

The hair of his beard was not as bristly as she’d expected, tickling her, but not in an irritating way, rather only heightening her senses.

Alec’s face tilted, the tip of his nose brushing her cheek as he deepened the kiss. Lips overlapping and then between. And his tongue… Oh, Giselle gasped, then sighed, as the velvet tip fluttered out to tease her sensitive lips. He tasted the inside, skimming over the plush flesh of her lower lip. On instinct, she touched her tongue to his, then darted it back as waves of pleasure and desire coursed through her. This was…this was… She didn’t know what she could even say about it other than it was pure bliss.

Giselle leaned into him, her fingers curling in the lapel of his frockcoat, wanting to explore more than that. And she noticed then that Alec kept his hands to himself, braced on either side of her. She had the sudden desire for him to misbehave, to discover all of her body the way she wanted to unearth his.

THE SCOT IS HERS
by Eliza Knight

Highland war heroes rebuilding their lives grapple with ladies forging their own paths—who will win?

Regency Scotland comes alive in the vibrant and sexy new SCOTS OF HONOR series by USA TODAY bestselling author Eliza Knight. Scottish military heroes, who want nothing more than to lay low after the ravages of war in 19th century France, find their Highland homecomings vastly contradict their simple desires. Especially when they meet the feisty lasses who are tenacious enough to take them on, and show them just what they’ve been missing out of life. In battle they can’t be beaten, but in love, they all find the ultimate surrender.

When Lord Alec Hay, Earl of Errol returns from war, his mother is determined to see him wed. But he wants only to escape into the darkest room in his ruined castle and relive the harrowing moments in battle where he was unable to save his best friend…

Lady Giselle Hepburn, an impulsive lass, rides out from a neighboring estate during a storm, attempting to escape her family and a forced marriage to a man with a vicious dark side. She falls off her horse and nearly tumbles over a cliff, but is saved by a handsome, mysterious Highlander. With a twisted ankle, and the weather too dangerous to attempt riding, Giselle agrees to ride out the storm all night with the stranger…

To Alec’s shock, Giselle is the first woman who doesn’t shy away from his scar and treats him like a man rather than a hideous barbarian. As the storm rages through the night, they each confess their meddling family’s determination to see them wed——and he learns her intended is his greatest enemy. Alec insists that she accompany him back to his house to convalesce, where he presents her with a solution to both of their problems: —what if they wed each other in secret? Could a marriage of convenience free them both from their unwanted troubles, or will love be an incredibly inconvenient development?

First Kiss Friday with April Holthaus & a Giveaway!

#FirstKiss Friday, Be My Guest, Historical Romance, Scottish Romance

Welcome to this weeks First Kiss Friday blog! My guest today is April Holthaus who will be sharing an excerpt from her upcoming novel Heart of the Highlands: The Raven. April is also offering a giveaway so be sure to read all the way through the post in order to be in the running. Happy reading, my lovelies, and good luck with April’s giveaway!

Excerpt:

“Why do ye look at me so?” she whispered.

“When ye gaze upon a work of art, do ye no’ stop to admire it?

“I am fair, nothing more.”

“Ye are much more. Ye may keep your head down when you walk, but there is a beauty about you that, no matter what you do, can ever be hidden. A rose can no’ hide its beauty for it will always be a rose.”

Eamon leaned in close to her, expecting her to retreat, but she did not. Her eyes called to him like the sea called to a ship’s captain. Eamon knew it would be best to keep his feelings at bay, but the more he was around her, the more he ached to touch her. Would it be a sin to glide his hand across her cheek, or comb his fingers through the locks of her hair? If he did, would it be enough to satisfy his desire, or would he starve for more?

Eamon wasn’t just a man, and she wasn’t just a lass. Had it been that simple, he would not be questioning the validity of his actions. He had to remind himself that Adelyn was the king’s cousin and a daughter of royal blood. He was a warrior and a son of a traitor. He could never afford to have a wife. For what sort of a man could leave his wife or his children defenseless?

They each held onto the moment, stretching the seconds, like watching the very last grain of sand fall inside a time piece. Had he been a blind man, he may have missed the look of disappointment in her eyes as he began to retreat. Though his heart yearned for her, he had an unbreakable vow to his king. He took a reluctant step back out of her embrace.

“I bid ye good night, Lady Adelyn.”

With a slight bow of his head, Eamon turned toward his chamber. Behind him the door handle to her room jiggled as she turned the knob. He could hear the creak of the door swinging open on its rusty hinges, followed by the light patter of her footsteps as she entered the room. Eamon stopped and stared aimlessly through the blackness of the empty hall.

He couldn’t walk away.

“Damn the consequences!”

He did not know if it was the pull of his heart or the whiskey that gave him a fool’s courage, but he quickly turned on his heel. Rushing forward, he stopped the door from closing with his hand. Grabbing her arm, he swung Adelyn around, and pressed her up against the wall. He cupped his hands along the side of her face and pressed his lips to hers in a hard and passionate kiss.

Her lips were as warm as sweet wine. A soft sigh escaped her as he pressed his body against hers. Lifting her arms around his neck, she grabbed onto a fistful of hair, deepening the kiss. Trailing kisses down her neck, his hands explored the curves of her body. As he touched her, her breaths came in deep, heavy pants.

Desire melted all sense of duty and obligation. Pressing his forehead against hers, they shared the same air as their racing hearts began to calm.

“Tell me ye feel this. Tell me that I am no’ the only one who feels whatever this is,” she breathlessly whispered.

“Ye cannae imagine how badly I want ye. Just being around ye is maddening. Every time I am near ye I feel unhinged. But ye are no’ mine to have,” he openly admitted.

“I dinna want ye to go. I only feel safe when I am around ye.”

“I must go.”

“Promise me I will see ye again.”

Holding her in his arms, he placed a gentle kiss to her forehead.

“I promise.”

Last week Lady Coira fell out of the tree she had been perched on… right into Garrick’s arms. Enjoy this snippet, my lovelies, and happy reading!

Snippet:

“Sir Garrick…” His named passed her lips in a breathy whisper.

“Lady Coira…” he answered, and before common sense returned to him, he leaned down and placed his lips upon her own.

By God’s Bones, he must be mad, he thought even as her arms pressed their way over his shoulders and wrapped themselves around his neck. His mouth moved over hers gently for he did not wish to scare her. ’Twas an exploration… a first-time meeting of two souls as their breaths exchanged with one another. He was lost ’til a low throaty moan escaped her and brought him back to the reality of what he was doing.

The Piper’s Lady
The MacLarens (Book Three)

By Sherry Ewing

True love binds them. Deceit divides them. Will they choose love?

Lady Coira Norwood spent her youth traveling with her grandfather. Now well past the age men prefer when they choose a wife, she has resigned herself to remain a maiden. But everything changes once she arrives at Berwyck Castle. She cannot resist a dashing knight who runs to her rescue, but would he give her a second look?

Garrick of Clan MacLaren can hold his own with the trained Knights of Berwyck, but as the clan’s piper they would rather he play his instruments to entertain them—or lead them into battle—than to fight with a sword upon the lists. Only when he sees a lady across the training field and his heart sings for the first time does he begin to wish to be something he is not.

Will a simple misunderstanding between them threaten what they have found in one another or will they at last let love into their hearts?

This novella was previously released in the Bluestocking Belles boxset, Never Too Late. It has been revised with additional material and an alternative ending. The Piper’s Lady is now being released for individual sale.

Enjoy this next snippet from The Piper’s Lady as Garrick tries to get Lady Coira out of a tree!. Happy reading, my lovelies.

Snippet:

Coira began to scoot off the branch whilst attempting to keep her skirts in place. Garrick lifted his arms to catch her, but suddenly, Coira lost her grip on the tree. Another startled scream was torn from her lips as she began to fall.

Garrick once more captured the woman in his arms as they fell to the ground in a heap. In a repeat performance, he rolled to bear the brunt of the impact ’til she was captured beneath him. Hazel eyes stared at him in wonder, and his heart lurched in his chest.

Read on to learn what happens next while Garrick continues his conversation with a lovely lady stuck up in a tree!

Snippet:

A short snort followed by a muffled laugh had Garrick staring up at the lady perched above his head. “Well… if you are certain. I feel silly now for making such a fuss, but thank you for saving me again, Sir Knight.”

“’Tis a pleasure tae be of service tae ye once more, my lady,” Garrick said, again not correcting her assumption he had been knighted. He should do so whilst they had the rare opportunity of being alone. Still, he could not forget the earlier scene he had witnessed just a short time ago and mayhap ’twas his reasoning to let her think on him favorably for a short whilst longer. “Let us see what we can do about getting ye out of the tree now, shall we?”

Last week, Garrick learned that Coira was afraid of a snake slithering through the forest. Happy reading, my lovelies!

Snippet:

“’Twas a harmless reptile, my lady. Besides, where else should a snake be living except in a forest? Ye are treading in their territory when ye venture tae take a walk amongst the trees. Truly, such a little animal would not have done ye harm.”

“Are you sure?”

“Aye, Lady Coira.”

The Piper’s Lady
The MacLarens (Book Three)
By Sherry Ewing
Release Date: November 17, 2020
Special preorder price of $0.99

Welcome to my First Kiss Friday blog! With the release of The Piper’s Lady this coming Tuesday, I had to give you the second kiss between our hero Garrick of Clan MacLaren and our heroine Lady Coira Norwood since I previously shared their first. I hope everyone will enjoy this novella, along with the extra material and new ending, and a return to Berwyck Castle and its people. You’ll see some familiar faces along with a ghost I can never forget. Happy reading, my lovelies, and enjoy!

Excerpt:

Coira closed her eyes and waited for the moment when Garrick would kiss her again. Her lips parted. Their breaths mingled and yet… nothing. Her eyes opened, and she gazed into green eyes as vivid as the forest around them. She could not mistake the expectation held within those flashing orbs, which mirrored her own desires.

“Are ye sure this is what ye want, sweet Coira?” he whispered, and she swooned at the way he rolled the R in her name with his Scottish brogue. “Just tell me tae put an end tae what we might start, and I shall let ye return tae the castle untouched.”

“I cannot tell you to halt.” She ran her fingers through his tawny colored hair till she urged his head forward. “I have never been more certain of anything in my entire life, Sir Knight.”

’Twas all the encouragement he needed. He swooped down and took possession of her mouth. Aye, this kiss was entirely different from the one they had shared but moments before. His mouth devoured hers with deep sweeping strokes of his tongue. Coira willingly surrendered herself to the sensations Garrick awakened in her. Since she was unsure of what would please him, she followed his lead and mimicked what he was doing, drawing his tongue further into her mouth.

He groaned deep in his throat. ’Twas a distinct primeval sound, and Coira would have smiled knowing she had pleased him, if her lips had been free to perform such a feat. He continued to plunder her mouth. ’Twas a pleasant assault on her senses she did not want to end.

The bark of the tree pushed into her back but she cared not. Her current position enabled her to revel in the awareness of every inch of her body pressed intimately against the hardness of the knight who held her tightly in his arms. Her heart furiously beat within her chest when he deepened their kiss. Surely Garrick could hear the clamor himself of what he was doing to her. She never wanted this moment to end, but how long would it be before someone came looking for her?

’Twas as though he read her thoughts as they crossed her mind, for he suddenly broke off their kiss.

Coira gasped to catch her breath, and they took their ease, foreheads gently touching. “That had to be the most perfect first kiss,” she murmured, holding his shoulders for support. She knew, if she let go, she would crumble to the ground in a heap of pleasure. No one had ever made her feel so alive before.

He chuckled. “’Twas our second, if we are counting, sweet Coira.”

She laughed with him and smiled, happy about what she had unexpectedly found with this man. “Aye. I suppose you have that aright, Sir Garrick.”

When last we checked in with Garrick of Clan MacLaren, he had just learned that Lady Coira had scooted up a tree in terror of a hideous snake! Read on and enjoy, my lovelies!

Snippet:

Garrick attempted not to laugh, drew his sword and began poking around the low shrubbery. He at last saw Coira’s monster slithering away, minding its own business. He picked up the snake with the tip of his blade before giving the reptile a toss to ease the lady’s mind.

Coira gave a sigh of relief. “You should have killed the beast so ’twould not harm another venturing in the woods,” she scolded.
