It’s always a pleasure when I can host one of my fellow Bluestocking Belles on my First Kiss Friday blog. Today’s guest is the lovely Caroline Warfield who has an excerpt from her novella Not Again Harry which will be found in our boxeset Moonlight Madness that releases October 15th. A creepy old house, a wish granting mouse, haunting, prowlers and a man from her past.
Dora isn’t sure what to make of it all, but she’s happy to be trapped by the storm with Finn Scholfield, her brother’s childhood friend. Treasures from the east, including exotic orchids, enchant her. Finn enchants her. If only he’d quit thinking of her as Ben’s little sister. She finally convinces him to describe his travels. The first kiss wouldn’t be the last.
Excerpt:
He spun the globe around to southeast Asia.
Dora blinked at the unfamiliar islands and seas. “You started in Mumbai.”
He showed her that and dragged his finger to Goa. “And we left from here around the subcontinent.”
The zigzag route of his fingers across seas, between islands, and onto land masses was dizzying before it landed on Moulmein in Burma. Dora’s heart pounded when she laid her finger boldly to the side of his, touching it. “The other side of the world,” she murmured.
“Yes,” he whispered. He took her hand in his, the tenderness of it stopping her breath. She thought he would scold her. He didn’t. The press of his lips on her ungloved hand left her speechless. “And I am leaving before I carry this any farther.”
She didn’t have to wonder what he meant for his fingers gently touched her lips. She stood in the way of his path to the door, unable and unwilling to move out of his way, lost to all coherent thought but certain she needed to stay close to him.
Finn shook his head. “Dora…” His hands came around her waist, but just as she expected him to move her out of his way, his mouth came down on hers.
She gasped, opening her mouth. He did move her, waving a hand as if to push desire away, and murmuring, “No.”
He made it to the door before she called after him.
“One more question, Finn.”
He stopped but didn’t turn.
“Did you? Make your fortune that is?”
“Yes. But not what your father might think is one.”
