First Kiss Friday with Rue Allyn

Welcome to my First Kiss Friday blog. It’s always a pleasure when I can have one of my dear friends and fellow Bluestocking Belles on my blog. This week I have Rue Allyn who’s hear to give you a first kiss scene from her story What the Heart Knows. Happy reading and take it away Rue!

Sherry, thank you very much for the opportunity to share with your readers the first kiss from What the Heart Knows. The setting is a hillside on which our hero, Captain Kit Copefort hopes to build his future home. He’s brought the woman he loves to view the setting and hear her opinion of the location.

Excerpt:

“I hadn’t expected to be so charmed by the local, … ah, scenery,” Kit said.

At his hesitation Meg lifted her gaze and found him studying her, intently. A soft, tender light gleamed in his eyes.

“But… you are not looking at the scenery, Kit.” She smiled.

“I am looking at the only thing worth seeing.”

“Oh.” Her fingers went to her lips.

“I want to kiss you, Meg Fenneman, and I intend to, if you’ll permit it.” His teeth grasped his lower lip.

“Oh.” She kissed the fingers resting against her mouth then placed them on Kit’s bitten lip. “Yes, please.”

He gathered her close, holding her gaze as securely as his arms held her body. Then he was kissing her.

The wind blew around them. Her hair pins loosened. Hands stroked her arms. Gooseflesh tickled her skin, but she wasn’t cold. She was hot. Everywhere. She’d melt into a puddle from the center outward, if he didn’t stop. Heaven, please don’t let him stop.

Her prayer was refused, for he stepped away. Instantly, she was cold and alone. Loneliness never troubled her before. Now it seemed a great tragedy. She studied the man she loved.

LoveI can’t love KitCan I?

Too stunned by the flood of feelings, she stumbled past Kit to the top of the rise.

About What the Heart Knows, Forevers in Fenwick Book Four

A retired army captain investigates a series of crimes that lead directly to the door of a woman he loves. Will fate force him to choose between honor and love?

Home from the wars, Captain Christian Copefort arrives in Fenwick to investigate the local squire on suspicion of smuggling and profiteering. Kit vows to find proof of the gentleman’s shady dealing. Then Kit meets the squire’s lovely daughter. Is she complicit in her father’s criminal activities? What a pity, if she is, for she is the one woman Kit believes he could love.

The allure of Captain Copefort baffles Miss Margaret Fenneman. Modest for a man whose exploits on battlefields are widely known, Kit Copefort is neither bellicose nor conceited. Only charming. Yet, he holds her father in contempt. How can she be attracted to a man who opposes to everything she believes right? She refuses to show any disloyalty to her father. But Kit…and fate may force her to choose.
