It’s always my pleasure to share the love of a new release from my friends. Today we’re celebrating the book birthday of The Prince’s Highland Bride by Cathy and DD MacRae. This novel will be on sale for a few days so be sure to grab it while you can before the price goes up. I just love this cover, don’t you? Here’s an excerpt for your reading enjoyment!

Excerpt:

“Marry ye?” The words spilled in a whoosh of disbelief before she could stop them.

Phillipe raised a brow. “’Twould not be the hardship ye seem to envision.”

Maggie swallowed, pulled her hands free. She flattened them against the cold stone at her back. “I dinnae know what to say.”

“Might I hazard the thought ye care for me a bit? Ye did say ye’d missed me.”

A teasing glint lit his eyes.

“I willnae deny it.” She glanced down, then back to him from beneath her lashes. “There is something between us that speeds my heart. Compels me to listen for yer step.”

“And what else, mon coeur?” Phillipe eased closer until the hem of her gown fluttered intimately about his feet.

Maggie’s skin tingled. Her lips parted, silent words pouring forth.

It pulls me to yer presence—yers and none other’s—begs for yer touch—for yer kiss.

As though he’d heard all she hadn’t said, Phillipe’s head lowered until his lips skimmed hers. Rough silk. Coarse hairs of his beard lightly tickled her skin. The sensation was exhilarating—and completely unsatisfying. Maggie leaned closer, needing the fullness of his touch, the heat of his mouth. His lips firmed beneath hers, parted slightly. Their tongues touched, polite query, then tangled in a flurry of passion.

She pressed against him and his arms encircled her waist, pulling her tight.

A moment later, he released her. “This . . . this will require more honesty, Maggie. A story ye must know before ye answer me yea or nae.”

The Prince’s Highland Bride
by Cathy and DD MacRae

He abandoned his crown to begin a new life. She sought a place to heal her heart. Love was the last thing on their minds.

Phillipe de Poitiers, a prince of Antioch, finds himself a breath away from wrongful execution. Risking everything, he leaves behind his crown, his family, his country—and a body sworn to be his by the Bishop, himself.

Free of court intrigue and drawn to Scotland by memories of a woman who once possessed his heart, Phillipe sells his sword to pay for his travels and accepts the task of guarding the daughter of Laird MacLaren.

When Maggie MacLaren’s abusive marriage fails, she wants nothing more than to retire to her childhood home on the banks of Loch Lomond. Trouble follows her, putting her clan in danger, and she travels to the Isle of Hola, placing her safety in the hands of a mysterious mercenary with a haunted smile and a kind heart.

As Maggie and Phillipe struggle with their pasts, love blooms. But when a pirate’s treasure offers a seductive lure, will it free them—or prove the downfall of all they hold dear?

Phillipe of Antioch, briefly king of Cilicia, would be remembered by the world as an arrogant, presumptuous man, poisoned two years after his marriage to the queen of Cilicia, accused of crimes against his adopted country. This re-imagined telling of Phillipe’s life, one of court intrigue, distrust, and the lust for power, shines a different light (and ending) on the tale.

Be My Guest, Cathy MacRae, Historical Romance, Medieval Romance

Welcome to First Kiss Friday. You’ve seen author Cathy MacRae’s work here before on our Medieval Monday hop. Today she joins us from Wolfebane Publishing to share the first kiss scene from her novella The Penitent. Our novella’s released as a part of Kathryn Le Veque’s De Wolfe Pack Connected World and we’re thrilled to share this excerpt with you. Happy reading, my lovelies, and enjoy!

Excerpt:

Simon arched a brow, matching the gesture with a curved lip as he stepped close to Iseabal and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear.

“Ye wouldn’t cheat me out of my three days, would ye?”

A shiver of desire shot through Iseabal before she could steel herself against the reaction. Simon leaned closer, the heat of his body overwhelming, his nearness both a frustration and a delight. Liquid heat softened Iseabal’s bones as Simon kissed her ear.

“Do not forget, my heart. Ye are home.”

“I dinnae say we would wed.”

“Ye will.”

Torn between laughter and outrage, Iseabal planted a fist on one hip. “Ye cannae force me into marriage, Simon de Bretteby.”

He caught her hand and drew it to his lips, dropping a kiss to the backs of her fingers. “I do not plan to force ye, Izzy.”

Blurb:

Simon de Bretteby is one of The Saint’s closest friends and most loyal soldiers. His entire life has revolved around service to Lord de Wolfe’s nephew—except for one summer when he was ordered across the Scottish border to put a stop to a rogue chieftain who’d stolen cattle from an English lord. Injured and separated from his men, de Bretteby had little chance of survival, but a kind-hearted Scottish lass boldly healed his body, though he left his heart in her keeping.

Iseabal Maxwell, daughter of Chief Maxwell’s bastard son, has little love for English soldiers—and even less love for clan politics. With her sister ordered to wed as a pawn for peace along the border, Iseabal expects the same bleak future. As relations between the two nations grows ever more strained, defying her father’s orders by saving the life of an English knight risked much. But letting him go was the hardest thing she has ever done.

Now her life lies in ruins—her father dead after the English besieged their home, her fate decided by a man she fears. What will happen when she appears on Simon’s doorstep, carrying secrets she would die to protect?

Welcome to a new theme for Medieval Monday. For the next 14 weeks we’ll be doing snippets of our books about our hero and heroines first encounters. If you comment on any of the author’s threads, you will be in the running for a giveaway of all the ebook’s in this rounds theme.

With that being said, I’d like to welcome Cathy & DD MacRae and an excerpt from their novel, The Highlander’s Viking Bride. Be sure to comment for your chance to win.

Excerpt: The Sinclair’s voice boomed from the high table.

“Allow me to express my sympathies on the loss of yer father. I dinnae know him, but all said he was a good man. This feud has been costly for both clans. I welcome the offer to end hostilities between our people. No one here can remember why we are at odds.”

“’Tis the same for us,” Calder replied.

“Then let us toast to new beginnings,” Sinclair offered as he raised his quaich high. Around the tables, the others followed their laird’s example. So far, their welcome was more than Calder could have hoped for. A prickling sensation down his spine cautioned him something was afoot.

Blurb:

Calder MacGerry, laird of an impoverished clan, has resolved to end the bitter feud between the MacGerrys and Sinclairs. He jumps at Laird Sinclair’s offer of marriage to his only daughter, Katja, to seal the agreement between their clans—only to get more than he bargained for.

Katja’s chance to escape her father’s harsh treatment appears to be too good to be true. But becoming Lady of a clan that despises her because she’s a Sinclair, doesn’t make her life any easier. When the attacks turn deadly, she fights her way out, making a dangerous passage to the Shetland Isles for refuge with her Viking family.

Calder and Katja’s marriage, built on mistrust, rushes quickly into disaster. As Calder seeks to repair the damage, Katja discovers not another enemy, but a husband who pledges a new beginning.
